However, personal experience is always best. That's why I will write this article from my personal point of view, what all has happened to me on the Internet and how I protect myself from data misuse. This article is brought to you as part of <strong>Cyber Security Day<\/strong>. Internet vigilance is an everyday part of everyone who comes into contact with it.\n<h2><b>Internet safety<\/b><\/h2>\nInternet security is an increasingly important issue in today's world, as almost everyone uses the internet for various activities. From communicating with friends and family to shopping and banking, the Internet has become an integral part of our daily lives. However, as with everything, there are risks associated with using the internet and it is important to be aware of these and take steps to protect yourself and your information.\n\n<strong>The main risks associated with the use of the Internet are:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>identity theft<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>infecting your computer with malware and other malicious software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>in addition to these risks, there are also potential dangers associated with online relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Basic tips for safe internet use<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>1. Passwords<\/strong><\/h3>\nIt is necessary to create more complicated passwords than in the past, because the systems for cracking them are also improving. In the introductory figure we can notice a few passwords that are the most used in Slovakia. They are not strong enough and are easy to crack. We are grateful for this data <a href=\"https:\/\/nordpass.com\/most-common-passwords-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NordPass.<\/a>\n<figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.40.34.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1228\" height=\"838\" \/><\/figure>\nWhen creating a password, it is important to follow certain rules:\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>it is very important what characters the passwords will consist of.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>the length of the password must be respected, where it is recommended to fill <strong>at least 10 seats<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n \t<li>should consist of lower case, capital letters, special characters and numbers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIn the figure below we can see the rate of cracking individual passwords:\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/vyber-spravnosti-hesla-1024x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/figure>\n<strong>My own experience<\/strong>\n\nWhen I started using the internet, I used to give myself easy passwords too. One day I got an email from an unnamed website that my password had been cracked. Fortunately, they were using a system that didn't allow the email to be changed until I confirmed my consent to change it. A couple of times someone tried to log into my Instagram and Facebook accounts as well. I was saved <strong>two-factor authentication<\/strong> and I changed my passwords immediately.\n\n<strong>Tips for the end<\/strong>\n\nI do not recommend using the \u201eremember passwords\u201c feature. If someone hacks into this system, they will have all your data \u201eon their desk\u201c. For example, various browsers, apps, Google or Apple offer you such a service. If you already want or need to use it, make sure you use it in a number of ways. Such as app confirmation, a backup code or a code from an SMS. This method is called <strong>two-factor authentication<\/strong>.\n\nThe Council concludes. If you want to keep your passwords in your head, create <strong>your system<\/strong> to create different sequences that you can apply. It's the best way to protect your safety on the internet. Have your own logic and don't reveal it to any person.\n<h3><strong>2. Phishing<\/strong><\/h3>\nThe most common way to steal someone's data is \u201ePhishing\u201c. The most used is the mail method, where the attacker camouflages the mail of a company. Most of the time these are web links that resemble login forms. If the user fills them in, the attacker has obtained this data practically for free.\n\nCurrently, the SMS form is also used. In it, the attacker sends and mimics the URL of a state-owned website. Alternatively, this can also be in the form of threats or requests from the police. In this way, the police <strong>NEVER<\/strong> will not appeal.\n<figure><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12113 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.58.54.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1532\" height=\"1100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.58.54.png 1532w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.58.54-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.58.54-1024x735.png 1024w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-09.58.54-768x551.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1532px) 100vw, 1532px\" \/><\/figure>\nRecently, it happens to me that after posting an advert, I get an email or a text message saying that they would buy a product that I have hung on the advert portal. However, there is a catch. They send me a link with the location of the delivery company that they supposedly paid for my product in advance. They ask me to fill in my card information and the money will be paid when the courier comes for it.\n\nNever do this. <strong>If someone has to pay you, they will never ask you for your card details.<\/strong>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12121 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.02.14.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"858\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.02.14.png 484w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.02.14-169x300.png 169w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/figure>\nzAlways check the link <strong>even three times<\/strong> before opening them. These fraudulent sites have different URLs. Such as <strong>alza-en.biz.<\/strong> You can already see that it's not an original domain. It is located on alza.cz.\n\nYou can see a nice example of bazaar phishing messages on the YouTube channel <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/i7kzGqI2Nfg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Boys from Prague<\/a>.\n<h4><strong>3. Browsers and search engines<\/strong><\/h4>\nChoosing the right browser allows you to have detailed protection not only over <strong>with your data<\/strong>, but also over <strong>the number of displayed and unwanted ads<\/strong>. Currently, almost all browsers are fast enough. Some are faster after one update, the next one will be the third in line. So don't just focus on its speed.\n\nUnfortunately, some people have to use traditional browsers like Chrome, which supports advertising platforms.\n\nThe most secure of the browsers is <a href=\"https:\/\/brave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brave<\/a>. It's fast and has a built-in VPN you can use anytime. However, using it will limit the individual features that the website can offer you. The decision is up to you.\n\nSearch engines are an important means of security. One of the best known is Google. However, you sacrifice a lot of important data that this company collects about you. On the other hand, it offers you relevant results from your browsing history from ads and there are more links than on competing search engines.\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12131 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.10.06.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"914\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.10.06.png 914w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.10.06-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2023-10-27-at-10.10.06-768x358.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px\" \/>\n\nIt is also making its way to the forefront <a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DuckDuckGo<\/a> and I recommend it. You need to test and try it for at least a week and if you don't like it, you can go back to the previous one. There is no need to be afraid of it and you may be very surprised yourself with its use.\n\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} -->\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Mobile devices<\/strong><\/h4>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nAround three quarters of the world's smartphone users are on an Android device. This is the most commonly attacked system. This is a \u201etax\u201c for its openness and up to <strong>87 % all users<\/strong> may face at least one critical error. But how to avoid and prevent these threats?\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nIt is important to install applications only from <strong>Shop Play<\/strong>. Outside this space, I do not recommend installing any apps that can steal not only your smartphone data, but also your data <strong>from a credit card<\/strong>. They can install malware without your knowledge.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nEven the Play Store doesn't guarantee your data will be OK. Google tries to control them, and in most cases we get to safe apps, but that's not always the case. Only install verified apps. Hackers are especially trying to attack older and <strong>Not updated<\/strong> Application.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nUse an antivirus program. There are several quality software programs on the market that will protect you. You should remember to use them and check your smartphone regularly.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nThe pitfalls on Android made me not want to deal with the daily threats anymore. I was actively using smartphones on this platform. However, after the malware threat, I switched to the competition. Both Samsung and Google use hardware in their devices that protects data at the hardware level and it still stays on the smartphone.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"center\",\"id\":9140,\"width\":450,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9140\" src=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/ios-android-edited.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/ios-android-edited.webp 492w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/ios-android-edited-300x300.webp 300w, https:\/\/amcef.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/ios-android-edited-150x150.webp 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image --> <!-- wp:spacer {\"height\":\"15px\"} -->\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<!-- \/wp:spacer --> <!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} -->\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. VPN<\/strong><\/h4>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nYou can protect your activity from the pitfalls of the internet by using <strong>Virtual Private Network<\/strong>, VPN for short. Especially for public WI-FI networks that you connect to via mobile devices. This applies equally to Android and iOS. There should also be important protection on laptops and desktops. Be sure not to log into your bank or other sensitive accounts on public WI-FI.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nFor example, you can browse your bank account and handle your finances anonymously. The downside, which has happened to me, is watching streaming platforms. For example, HBO did not support watching from a country other than Slovakia. These limitations with VPNs can happen to you with any service you use regularly.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nThere are many quality VPNs on the market. You should check out<strong> benefits<\/strong> or <strong>Disadvantages<\/strong> each of them. Some use better encryption protocols, others use anonymous registration and payment with Bitcoin. ExpressVPN has worked well for me. It's more expensive, but we used it as part of a family account. We split the payment for using this service evenly.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} -->\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. UPDATE<\/strong> <strong>AND USE ANTIVIRUS<\/strong><\/h4>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nMany users do not update their devices. These updates help you fight security threats and fix apps or entire systems. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/device-updates-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kaspersky<\/a> conducted research on 15,000 respondents who used a computer, tablet or smartphone for their work or personal life. Up <strong>50 % users<\/strong> postpones its updates until later. <strong>2 %<\/strong> respondents answered that they do not update at all.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\n<em>Find a day and put it in your diary to update your apps and systems on your devices. You can leave updates for Sundays, when it's generally slower and you usually have all your devices with you.<\/em>\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nDon't underestimate <strong>antivirus<\/strong>. In addition to phishing and malware, a Trojan horse can get into your device. There are many antivirus programs on the market. You need to read reviews and real experiences of other users, just like when choosing a VPN. These also need to be updated from time to time, unless you have automatic installations requested. Don't forget to set up a device scan, too, which can detect hidden threats.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:spacer {\"height\":\"15px\"} -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:spacer --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nDon't underestimatePay attention to what <strong>you share on social networks<\/strong>. Once you put something online, you don't have to get rid of it. Communicate with a clear mind in the online space so you don't regret it later.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nI've presented you with a brief summary of what you should do regularly to protect your data and yourself on the internet. I'm sure much more could be written, but this is the very basics of what you should do regularly.
